In June 2024, the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) hosted the 5th International Consultation on Sexual Medicine (ICSM2024) in Madrid. This collaborative event brought together 216 leading experts from around the world, organized into 24 multidisciplinary committees, for two and a half days of intensive consensus discussions. The program was organized in partnership with ESSM, SMSNA, and ISSWSH.
The aim of ICSM2024 was clear: 'To develop an authoritative, comprehensive consensus document based on peer-reviewed evidence and expert insights on male, female, and broader sexual health issues.'
The ICSM has evolved since its first edition in 1999, expanding from a narrow focus on male sexual function to covering a broad range of sexual medicine topics including mental health, aging, LGBQIA+ populations, and sociocultural factors. Today, the ICSM recommendations are globally recognized and serve as vital tools for clinicians, researchers, educators, and policy makers.
The first manuscripts from ICSM2024 are now published in Sexual Medicine Reviews, offering updated and practical, evidence-based insights across key domains in sexual health. We encourage you to read, share, and integrate these recommendations into your work.
